Manual Handling in a Childcare Setting

Course Aims:

The aim of the course is to give the students best practice in manual handling of objects and children.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the training session the students will be equipped with the following:

• Discuss the function of the spine
• Discuss manual handling legislation
• Discuss handling policies and procedures
• Discuss and demonstrate ergonomics and risk assessments
• Discuss safer handling
• Discuss and demonstrate team handling
• Discuss and demonstrate effective communication
• Demonstrate safe moving of inanimate object (student’s participation)
• Discuss and demonstrate correct children handling procedures

Course Syllabus:

Spine awareness, legislation, policies and procedures, ergonomics, risk assessments, safe handling, team handling and communication, inanimate load handling, practical ergonomics, children handling
