Following the release of the March 2012 exam results for the NEBOSH General Certificate, Alpha Safety Training are delighted to announce another improvement in our pass rates. This cohort of students scored an overall pass of 91%! This comes on the back of the results from December 2011 where we scored an overall pass rate of 83% and September 2011 when we had a pass rate of 75%. This gives an indication of the commitment that we have to the continual improvement of our NEBOSH programme and the success of our students.

A large part of the programme’s success can be credited to Alpha’s lead tutor Leigh. Leigh has a solid teaching pedigree, having gained his PGCE and with over ten years of teaching experience in Schools all over the World where he taught Physics and Maths. Leigh possesses the NEBOSH General Diploma, the NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate and will be sitting the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma this year. Leigh is also an Examiner for both OCR and NEBOSH itself. It’s this mix of skills, qualifications and experience that enables Leigh to construct a programme that gives candidates the best chance of successfully completing what is without question a challenging course. Utilising his experience from teaching in Schools and the knowledge gained as a NEBOSH Examiner Leigh has designed a course that makes a difficult subject interesting. There’s no death by PowerPoint on an Alpha NEBOSH course and no over reliance on text books. Students will implement what they learn with regular case studies and are assessed continually during the course with any shortcomings identified early and feedback given to the students so that they can address any issues prior to the exam.

There is a culture in Alpha Safety Training that is conducive to running a successful NEBOSH programme. Of seven full time employees, four possess the General Certificate, one holds the General diploma, two employees have the IOSH Managing Safely award and there are currently two members of staff studying towards gaining Diplomas. This recognition of the value of the NEBOSH qualification allows us to identify the factors needed to run successful courses and continually improve our offering.

For anyone aspiring to gain the qualification we would always advise that they ask the centre that they intend to use what their exam results are. Always get the exact percentage number for each element. Don’t be satisfied by a vague answer like “close to the national average”. A successful centre will always be more than happy to give you an exact figure. In our case we would be more than happy to provide documented proof of our success. At the end of the day the NEBOSH Certificate will probably cost you a minimum of a thousand pounds to complete and take two weeks of your life. Don’t waste that investment with a provider that isn’t equipped to give you the best chance of passing. ALWAYS ask what the pass rate is ALWAYS ask for proof!
