
Paediatric First Aid
Course Aims:
To provide the students with the knowledge and training in Paediatric first aid.
Course objectives
By the end of the training session the students will be equipped with the following:
- Discuss First Aid and National Standards
- Discuss the role of a First Aider
- Discuss and demonstrate accident reporting and the First Aid box
- Discuss incident planning
- Discuss casualty action plans
- Discuss and demonstrate primary survey
- Demonstrate the recovery position
- Discuss and demonstrate infant and child rescue breaths and CPR
- Discuss seizures
- Discuss allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock
- Discuss head injuries
- Discuss and demonstrate bleeding and shock
- Discuss burns
- Discuss sprains, strains and fractures
- Discuss poisoning, bites and stings
- Discuss eye, nose and ear obstructions
- Discuss childhood conditions
- Discuss heart condition
- Discuss meningitis
Course syllabus:
First Aid and National Standards, role of a First Aider, accident reporting and the First Aid box, incident planning, casualty action plans, primary survey, recovery position, infant and child rescue breaths and CPR, infant and child choking, asthma and diabetes, seizures, allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock, head injuries, bleeding and shock, burns, sprains-strains and fracture poisoning, bites and stings, eye, nose and ear obstructions, childhood conditions, heart conditions and meningitis
