
Manual & People Handling – In line with the All Wales Manual Handling Passport Scheme
Course Aims:
The aim of the course is to give the students best practice in manual & people handling.
Course objectives
By the end of the training session the students will be equipped with the following:
- Discuss the function of the spine
- Discuss manual handling legislation
- Discuss handling policies and procedures
- Discuss and demonstrate ergonomics and risk assessments
- Discuss safer handling
- Discuss and demonstrate team handling
- Discuss and demonstrate effective communication
- Demonstrate safe moving of inanimate object (student’s participation)
- Demonstrate skills in assisting a client to sit, stand and walking
- Demonstrate skills in assisting a client to move up and down the bed
- Demonstrate skills in assisting a client in and out of a bed using a hoist
Course syllabus:
A - Spine awareness, legislation, policies and procedures, ergonomics, risk assessments, safe handling, team handling and communication.
B - Inanimate load handling, practical ergonomics.
C – Sitting, standing and walking.
D – Bed mobility.
F – Hoisting.
