IPAF Powered Access MEWP Operator | Category 3a & 3b (Classroom theory & Practical)

As the safe use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) requires the learner to identifysafety notices and read and thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any MEWP user.  

Equally, theand use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.  

Learners are required to wear personal protective equipment to include safety footwear, hi vis, harness and hard hats. There is a limited range of harnesses, hi vis and hard hats available at our centre for learner use. All external PPE/ Equipment brought for training must be safe for use, for instance with an up to date record of thorough examination.

• Structural parts
• Familiarisation and pre-use inspections
• Platform movements, travel and safe operation
• Ground conditions
• Hazard awareness

Practical Training Modules

• Site risk assessment
• Introduction & familiarisation to the MEWP
• Major component identification
• Pre-use checks and inspections
• Safe operation of the machine including shut down procedures and pre-use function checks
• Route planning
• Machine operation practice
• Parking the machine

This course cost is fully inclusive of a hard copy of the IPAF PAL card alongside digital access via the IPAF app.
